1st Annual Apple Cider Festival
~0~

While the Shaker Faith, aka "Shaking Quakers" is Well Known around the Enfield area and has quite a Legacy going back to England in the 1800's.

Also shaking a limb of a tree is a good old fashioned method for gathering Apples too.

So hosting a Cider and Cheese Festival at their Museum seems quite appropriate.

I might add that Cabot Cheese has quite a history as well.
In honor of that Heritage Cabot decided to replicate some cheeses to acknowledge and pay tribute to our European roots as well.
So they created the "Legacy" line of Cheddar

So this event makes a perfect setting to explore both.

With "A bit of Cider and a bite of Cabot"
So C'mon lets
"Shake it one time with me"

So I was loaded up and headed for the Van on what was a beautiful morning.
Show time was scheduled for 2:00 but I had to be set up and ready by 1:00 so with the drive down and prepping made for a 9:00 AM departure which is late in the day for me.

First look at Lake Mascoma as I arrived, looking very nice.

But here is where I would spend my day.
1st glimpse of the "Stone Mill" which was a water powered Mill for various things the Quakers had going, lumber Mill , Grist Mill etc.

Present day entrance to the Mill

I was the early bird as usual, we were inside the building but there was no heat in the building and obviously it was made of stone and in the shade, so thats when I began to see one of the reasons they were called shakers..:-)
The floor had been replaced with wood by the Local Catholic school because at one time they used it for basketball

So I located my spot and proceeded to get the basic set-up done.
So when finished I had time to look around outside so I headed out to catch the view

As I came in I saw a trail heading up hill out back to a meadow so I went on up to get a view of the village.

The Stone Mill was water powered back in the day, they would have a hard time right now from the looks of the Mill Stream

I hiked up almost to the top of the meadow ran into lots of briar's and brambles so I turned back short of the top, but not much.
View looking back into the center of town & the Shaker Village.

When I got back around the other vendors were moving in and getting ready.

Shacksbury Cider.

Jasper Hill

The Shaker Museum Staff was there as well.

Things starting to take shape and people starting to wander in.

There was a musical group out front playing I believe they were called "Still Hill"
very talented group especially with playing stringed instruments in the cool shade.

Wicked Good Cider was outside by the Mill Stream with a pretty large display and store front.

So I hit the start button on the day and was ready to go.

This was the 1st year for this event so it wasn't real busy, but it is a great venue due to the views, history and beautiful facility, about 1/2 way through the day business got steadier and I had many great conversations from local people VT. NH and MA. CT. and a few from further away like FL.

So while it was not a busy day it was a worthwhile day as opposed to a feeding frenzy.

People are always surprised about the amount of and benefit to the Local Farmers like the 50 Hard Working Farm Families in the State of NH that they are helping by supporting the Cabot Brand and Products.

I was Glad to be a part of it.

If you want to YouTube it with some foot tap'n music go here.

Until Next time
