Vermont Farm Show 2017

Cabot Farmers "Sharecropping" the Vermont Farm Show.

The Vermont Farm Show has a Long Proud History, not as Long as the Cabot co-op history but still a long time.
The Farm Show was started by the Vermont Dairy Association In 1930 but The Dairy Association has been around much longer than that, it was formed in 1868.
Dairy has always been a part of Vermont, when the first settlers came here they brought cows to nourish their families and to graze the land.
Dairy Farming took off in the 1850's, and by 1880 there was around 35,000 farms here, the most in state history.

With no refrigeration during those times milk was turned into cheese and butter before it spoiled, so you can see why Cabot was able to sustain through those times up until refrigeration came into play in the 1880's.

With the creation of refrigerated railroad cars they could branch out much easier, as far as Boston, then once refrigeration and electricity became readily available almost everywhere in @ 1920 Cabot was ready to take on the world and headed nationwide.

But I digress, The Farm Show started in The Burlington Auditorium, then due to size constraints and location issues they moved to Barre, and in 2012 Back to Burlington, with only a brief 2 yr hiatus due to WWII.

So here we are now at the 2017 Vermont Farm Show and Like the
"Worlds Fair" it gets Bigger and Better every year..
So Lets do this thing..

~0~
Left home bright and early it was -7° on my way out the door and it hit -9° as I was passing through Wolcott, then it got balmy by the time I reached Essex like plus 5° or something like that.

Could not get in the building until 7:30 according to the guard there, so I was way early. I explained to him that we were told to be set-up and ready to go by 8:00 but he would not yield he said "I have to follow orders", but after several more vendors came one of them called somebody and complained, so he caved in and we got it earlier, but still pinching the clock at least for me anyway.
Most of the big heavy stuff guys had their stuff delivered and set up the day before so they were ready to go.

I hauled my stuff in as fast as I could and got to work setting up

Had a lot of the cheese cubed which was a good thing because I was cramped for time to get ready for the Cow Bell to start ringing promptly @ 9:00.

The Vermont Farm Bureau was running a promo encouraging people to drink milk, and this year one of our long time Cabot Farmers, and a friend of mine Rosina Wallace, was running the program here, so she stopped to drop off a Stamp and Ink Pad for stamping the questionnaire that the participants had to fill out.

Once the Cow Bell rang to start the day people were filing in and as always the Cabot Table is always a popular spot with an 8 or 10 person line
throughout the day.

Anson Tebbetts, the recently appointed Vermont secretary of Agriculture stopped by to record a message.

After that was finished we had a nice chant, talking about farming, Cheese, and golf of course, he is a follower of my grandkids golf careers from when he was with WCAX.

I think he wanted to steal my cheese though.

Lots of great looking tractors and other equipment there and I've always had a soft spot for some of those clean and very functional looking machinery.
Maybe it's because my Granddad used mules.

Lots of different vendors there, some of every shape & size from all areas of agriculture and various local production facilities, something for everybody.
 Kingdom Creamery.

BEEF ! Its what for Dinner!
As long as it has some Cabot cheese in, or on it. !

Like their Commercial "Nationwide is on your side" so yes it so happens that they were on our side again this year.

We had a few celebrities try and get by incognito like Eva from WCAX but it did not work. :-)

Field Reps and Farmers sharing stories.

Had a chance to finally relocate my cooler a bit so make the banner more visible.

Recognition award from The Farm Show For the Cabot Creamery donation to the Scholarship Fund.

Sunday was no letup from the other two days solid traffic flow all day again.

Condensed Video Album Below.

Glad I could be a part of this great event.
Till Next time
